Come One Come All to the Red Headed Witches Monsters Ball

In efforts to save their historical building, while helping to save lives through the American Cancer Society, the Red Headed Witches are hosting a Monsters Ball Fundraiser and Costume Party!

The building they occupy at 1910 Del Prado Blvd S was built in 1984 and maintained for just over 20 years as a funeral home. The eerie history was a major draw to the Red Headed Witches when they signed a lease to take the building over 3 years ago.

Crissy Barchers, store owner said, "We fell in love with the building and concept of it. Our plans have always been to buy it at the end of our lease and renovate the north side turning it into an authentically haunted house."

With the sale date fast approaching, The Red Headed Witches are raising money for the down payment so they may remain in the building.

As active members of the community, they insisted on helping a non profit organization with this event. The Red Headed Witches chose to include the American Cancer Society's Cape Coral Relay for Life, as they are avid supporters of the cause. Sean Hoover, community manager for Relay for Life's Florida Division said, " The American Cancer Society is happy to be working with the Red Headed Witches and their fundraiser. It's good to see members of the community giving back to the community while trying to keep their own business running. Together we are helping to fin a cure to this horrible disease."

Show your support by attending The Red Headed Witches Monsters Ball on September 17, 2015 at the Rockade Bar (next the the Dixie Roadhouse) 1015 SE 47th Terrace, Cape Coral from 7 pm - 11 pm. Costume contest, raffles, body painting, flip book photo booth, live auction, and a special performance by the Maidens of Mayhem. Pre-sale tickets are available for $15 at the Red Headed Witches costume store, 1910 Del Prado Blvd S, Cape Coral through September 16, and available at the door the day of the event for $20.

Planning a Whimsical Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting ~ Witch Style

As new members of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, The Red Headed Witches are delighted to be officially welcomed in with a ribbon cutting ceremony that includes an article and photo in the News Press.

Time to plan our gathering!

Any time The Red Headed Witches host a function at our store, we catch the crystal ball and run with it! It's always Halloween in our home and we enjoy bringing that realm to people that may only entice in the thoughts of it during the fall season. Decor, menu, dress, music, ambiance.... All major factors in planning our whimsical witch party.

Menu
(Pintrest-ing ideas for the food is a sure fire way to get yourself amped up!)

You will want to be sure your food table is visually stimulating and carries the theme of your party. Table cloth, center pieces, even labels for your food items! I re-named ever dish on the menu, printed the labels out on fancy, antique looking paper, then burned the edging with a lighter. (Warning!! burnt paper does smell...)

(These are photos from our last function, to give you an idea)

We will be serving up the finest hors d'oeuvres, such as, goblin eyes, blood spatter cookies, spider hatched eggs, mini witch brooms, troll eyes and more! Mouth watering yet??? Wash it all down with our spiked Witches Brew! (Dry ice is a MUST for any and all Witches Brews! It also adds a bubbling sound effect!) Swamp water will also be available and is naturally alcohol free. (Again re-naming simple and obvious items to really create an experience. Swamp water is really just SPA water - slice up a lemon and a lime to fancy it up!)

Be sure to offer a variety. You don't want the guests to go into a sugar coma.... A mix of sweets, meats, and vegetarian options will please all.

People love getting a deal! Give them one!
We will be offering a special EARLY BUY DISCOUNT only during this event. Chose any one item and receive 20% off! Shop early and beat the Halloween Retail Madness!

Special Events

Shop Talk: The Red Headed Witches (Spotlight on Cape Coral, FL) by Party & Paper Retailer

Shop Talk: The Red Headed Witches

Shop Talk: The Red Headed Witches
Spotlight On: Cape Coral, Florida

Journey from a seasonal-only retail shop to a year-round success story

“Never give up on your dreams.”

That’s what Crissy Barchers tells herself every day, and it is the No. 1 lesson that she would like to share with other retailers.

Why? Because it’s that very principle that got her to where she is today — a retail storeowner who shares success with her best friend and business partner, Jennifer DuVall.

“I believe in the law of attraction,” Barchers said. “Like attracts like and if you can remain positive, success will come to you. It may take you longer than you would like it to, but eventually success will come.”

That time is now for Barchers and DuVall.

The Road to Success
The Red Headed Witches opened the Halloween season of 2008 as a seasonal-only store in Fort Myers, Florida. It was small and housed only 1,200 square feet of product. Competition proved to be tough; it was clear that changes needed to be made.

“After the first season, we decided to move the store to our hometown of Cape Coral, which was just miles away,” Barchers said. The new location offered a bigger and better storefront.

The best friend team moved in and out of three Cape Coral locations over the course of four Halloween seasons until finally deciding to “take the plunge” and become a year-round costume store.

“Of course the building we wanted had a big part in the decision,” Barchers said. “We couldn’t pass up a vacant, old funeral home — what a perfect building for such a store!

“We signed a long-term lease, did some remodeling and by early September 2012, ours doors were opened for year-round business.”

The funeral home measures 7,000 square feet, of which about 3,500 square feet has been turned into retail space. Barchers said the building is anything but typical.

“During the Halloween season, we take advantage of the large grassy area out front and transform it into a pumpkin patch where families can purchase pumpkins and take pictures,” she said. “Inside, we have created a more fun atmosphere using bright green and purple paint on the walls.”

The front half of the store is large and open — dozens of packaged costumes fit for all ages and sizes can be found.

As you make your way to the back of the store, you’ll find accessories, wigs, masks and more. The Red Headed Witches supports different displays showcasing various decade themes and includes an entire wall dedicated to pirate attire.

For Barchers and DuVall, it’s about more than in-store sales. The duo works very hard to keep up with community events and happenings and is always willing to help.

“We held a fundraiser here last fall to benefit our Special Effects Artists’ daughter who had a battle with severe scoliosis,” Barchers said. “The fundraiser brought together WWF and WWE (wrestling) superstars in a battle to raise money for her.”

She said the store has also partnered with local groups involved in The Relay For Life and often sets up booths at local events, such as Jingle Paws in the Park to benefit the adoption of unwanted pets.

“Being involved in the community really makes us feel like we belong here and the community has welcomed us,” she said.

Unique is Key
“From the minute you pull into our parking lot, you get a feel of character and uniqueness,” Barchers said. “We definitely don’t look like your average chain store.”

Take the “Zombie Boutique,” for instance. A whole section of the store is dedicated to zombies, and once inside the boutique, you will find “one-of-a-kind” costume pieces that have already been “zombie-fied.”

The store also has a special effects make-up artist on hand during the Halloween season. The artist is available year-round by appointment. Barchers said he does “everything from latex appliances to airbrush body paint and even face painting.”

The people at The Red Headed Witches do it all — costumes, make-up, accessories, you name it. But what sells best? What are the Cape Coral customers asking for?

“Throughout the year, our best sellers revolve around decade-themed costumes and accessories,” Barchers said. “The Roaring ’20s has proven to be a big hit over the years. Once stock has diminished from the busy Halloween season, I replenish the store with a larger variety of accessories.

“People come in 12 months out of the year in search of a specific part or piece and we strive to have what they are looking for,” she continued. “The key is to offer a variety of accessories. We find that by ordering just a few of everything, we can meet the needs of a larger number of customers. Quality not quantity when it comes to ordering the merchandise.”

The store’s ordering process is quite unique, too.

“We don’t use a computerized system when it comes to inventory,” Barchers said. “I am extremely visual and can still tell you how many of a certain item I ordered three years ago and how long it took to sell them.”

It’s different, but it appears to be working.  And Barchers plans to follow it when preparing for Halloween 2014. What’s on the menu?

“Halloween 2014 will be another massive year for superheroes,” she said. The popularity just continues to grow and so has the inventory choices from the manufactures.”

Let’s not forget about zombies!

“They’re an un-dying breed,” Barchers said. “With Zombicon, an annual festival bringing in 10,000 to 20,000 people to our area in October, we really stock up on the blood, prosthetics and make-up.”

If the store’s offerings aren’t considered unique, the customer service definitely is.

“We pride ourselves on our superb customer service,” Barchers said. “Everyone who enters the store is greeted with a genuinely happy-to-see-you smiling face. We are knowledgeable of all of our products and love helping the customers piece together their ideas.”

When priority is placed on uniqueness and customer service, the possibilities really are endless — profits are almost guaranteed for the women behind The Red Headed Witches.

SOS (save our summer) Feed the Cape Smack Down

What started out as, "can you get us a weight belt?", turned into a really neat project opportunity for The Red Headed Witches.

One of the teams participating in the SOS Feed the Cape Smack Down, a battle where seven teams compete to raise the most food and donations for the Cape Coral's Caring Center's Save our Summer Food Drive, called to see if we could rush ship them a belt for the winning team. Not only did I have what they needed, but I customized the belt for the event in time for it's debut on Fox 4's Morning Blend Show!!

The belt will go to the winning team (and be up for grabs again next summer at the annual event) and they will be named the champions in the fight to end hunger!

The event is open to the public and will be held at Dixie Roadhouse July 9th from 5:30 - 8:30. For more information check out the event page.

Strange Vandalism at The Red Headed Witches

Red Headed Witches Catch Sign Vandal on Camera
Fox 4 News

It's not voodoo but vandalism...

Bizarre case of vandalism here at The Red Headed Witches. Once believed to be a group of teenagers has turned out to be a grown man age 42.  Not once, or even twice, but four different attacks on the signs. From scratching off the word "witches" to gouging out the eyes, beating, kicking and prying the signs apart on all occasions.

After having a surveilane system installed, the Red Headed Witches caught the crook in the act and contacted the Cape Coral Police Department. Once the visual of the vandal was out for the public to see it didn't take long for the community to come together and help catch the crook. Thanks to the manager at Firestone across the street for keeping a watchful eye in the mornings, the police were able to pick up Andre Yokers just up the street after the fourth attack.

Andre Yokers admittied to the police he did it all four times claiming he was doing God's work. He said that "God's will does not allow any witch to live" and "it's not right for young boys to see that image of a witch". He was charged with three felonies and one misdemeanor and taken into custody.

A very special thank you to Discount Sign Shop for coming to the rescue and replacing the signs at no cost to the Red Headed Witches. Be sure to check them out for banners, magnets, signs, stickers and much more. http://discountsignshop.com/
This is our brand new sign!! Happy Witches!!
